goldilock$

Though born dirty-blonde I've been dying my hair black for years.

I had just gotten my first period when I realized I would never grow boobs wasn't interesting and had to therefore become "alternative" if I ever wanted attention.

So obviously I went for the Mall Goth look, a favorite of 12-year old girls like myself, who just wanted boys to be afraid of them while secretly digging their plastic spiked collars.

Though my mom was supportive enough to let me resemble a dead person via buying me black lipstick and latex pants, my look seemed ingenuine with my Lovely Golden Locks, so I soon became best friends with cheap boxed hairdye. (Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of myself from back then because I have burned them all-probably in whatever pseudo-satanic ritual I had been into).

Anyway, the black hair stuck and became part of my "image" long after I traded Goth for "Punk," (which was then traded for "40s Grandma," "Rave-Stripper," "Blogging Fag Hag").

When I ran out of gross subcultures I looked to other Raven-Haired Beauties and based my style on them:

Posh Spice

Jackie-O

Rose McGowan

Monica Lewinsky

Dr. Spock

I loooooove having dark hair. It makes people give me more respect than I deserve, allows me to act meaner than I should and implies that I'm "sultry" and "mysterious."

The problem with being dark is sometimes people take you too seriously, which I've had to make up for by being a psycho. I kinda wish people would assume I'm dumb before I prove that I am. And I'm kinda getting sick of having to color in my eyebrows with a sharpie.

I want to try being a blonde to see if I'll really "have more fun" and, as my dad predicted, "surprise people by being smarter than they expect, for once."

Brunettes will tell me I'm "selling-out" by going blonde but that's never stopped me before!

So tomorrow I'm having my salon consultation. They'll tell me if it even is possible to get my hair blonde after poisoning it for so long, and if so, how many thousands of my mother's dollars that will cost me.

Now all I've got to do is find the right "inspiration picture" to show them.

What do yall think? Will I make a bangin' blonde?

relapse

Sorry Matthew (& Karley), I just had to go back to black-the white wasn't trashy enough!

Hope I don't hurt yalls eyes x

studysesh

I may be neglecting yall for the next month or so because in September I've got more exams.

I know-I've been in school forever and it seems that I'll never get out. However considering the fact that my parents are having to sell all their furniture just to support me I think it's time for me to "get serious" about "growing the fuck up," aka graduating college before I turn 40.

I have never been able to do anything school related at school, home, in a library or any place that has or sells books. I have found the only way for me to get anything done is by going to a bar or coffee shop, which I learned back when I was failing high school.

It was senior year, and while my peers were in class, stressing over what college they'd get into, I was walking my cute lil ass to Starbucks to study for a remedial math course I had to take online in order to get my diploma (I was an impressive kid). There I met a cute blonde-haired guy who I decided was right for my sister, so I gave him her number and they ended up dating for years. I realized it was fate, started studying at coffee shops and eventually even got accepted to Appalachian State University.

I did pretty well at ASU, but now that I'm in Milan it's harder. Not just because I spend all of my time trying to figure out where I was the night before or stalking boys I'm convinced will eventually fall in love with me but because Milan doesn't have good cafes!

The only cafe you can actually sit at for more than two minutes without having the Mafia escort you out (Italians drink their coffee standing up and super fast. It's one of the million annoying things about them) is McCafe, and, as much as I love it there, I don't love being tempted by McFlurries and french fries-because what's the point of being smart if you don't look fit doing it?

Ok, so as I was writing that last paragraph my mom just came and told me to "stop doing this shit" so I'm gonna get to the point. Here's how to pick the best places to study.

1) Drinks
You'll need strong coffee and stronger liquor.

I get iced coffee with Bailey's every day at my current school's bar, however American cafes rarely do this-you're lucky to find a place that has beer. The best thing to do is pick a joint for it's espresso and sneak in a flask yourself. That way you'll stay awake and creative while saving money you'll need to spend on that guy who promised to help you cheat.

2) Atmosphere
Bathrooms are the most important part of any business.

I often pick restaurants, clubs, nail salons entirely based on their toilet. Great lighting and a flattering mirror will give you the confidence boost you need to get through the hell that is realizing you don't remember basic math, chose the wrong major and will probably never get a job.

3) People
Follow the hotties.

Once you find the right study spot you'll be there every day. And if that spot isn't full of people you want to have sex with you'll eventually find yourself in greasy hair, a pair of crocs and rolled-up gym shorts.

Because doing school shit is depressing enough. Don't make it worse than it should be.

Latest Photoshoot: Velvet magazine editorial ... Get the Cover look

It’s out !!! I have been waiting for this editorial to be published in the new issue of Velvet magazine … I love the result and the fact that we got the cover ... it looks amazing.
Absolutely everything about this shoot was great, our models the beautiful Gemma and incredible Masha (both available through my agent bareface), the fantastic Adam Browning-Hill behind the camera, the stylist extra-ordinaire Guillaume Nallet and the supporting team including photographer Jason Gareth, who I recently shot The Desert Dweller with.

Adam had originally planned to shoot this story in and around some amazing stranded old tankers in Sharjah (near Dubai) for which he had received permits. However, as the whole crew rocked up to start shooting at sunrise the security insisted that we needed a further permit ... after 3 hours of waiting we suspected that the city probably didn't want to be associated with some old stranded tankers in a fancy fashion editorial, which is why it was probably taking so long.

Slightly disappointed but not willing to give up on the shoot, we brainstormed locations and decided on the uninhabited "Ghost Village" in Ras Al Khaimah (about 45min away from where we were).
Check out my blog entry on the Kurv. magazine shoot for more information about this haunted place!

Thank you so much for these beautiful images Adam!

HOW TO: HAIR and MAKEUP

It was another 3am start for Hair & Makeup, curling and setting the hair and getting most of the makeup done before we moved to our location. I had curled and coloured the hair extensions the day before so all that was left for me to do on the morning of the shoot was to curl the models’ own hair and secure the extensions as well as cut them.

In terms of makeup, photographer Adam wanted the girls to have a beautiful golden "Cavalli Model" tan, which meant that I chose my MAC Full Coverage foundations 3-6 shades darker.

I used Illamasqua bronzer both as a blusher and on the arms adding a golden sheen. I then emphasized the eyes with loads of black eyeshadow from Mikyajy in the crease (all the way from the bridge of the nose blended out sideways) as well as underneath the eye. I added highlights on top of the lid using bronzy gold MAC pigment and my fave Illamasqua liquid metal in Solstice for the inner corner of the eyes. The lips were plumbed up using DIOR Lip Maximiser.

I had originally planned a more pewter/copper coloured look for the eyes, but considering the new location it just seemed that a darker eye defined with black eyeshadow worked better. I, however, stuck with the nail colour I had mixed the night before from the original eye shadow pigment and thought that worked beautifully even with the new look.
I do this a lot for shoots, it's so easy. Just get some clear nail polish, scrape some of your eyeshadow pigment off and mix it ... its that easy to get a nail varnish to match your eye look.

HAIR MASCARA to achieve GOLDEN EYEBROWS
My favorite part of this shoot’s makeup must be the golden eyebrows, they worked beautifully in combination with the golden jewelry and the overall feel of the shoot! Rather than bleaching the brows I used Frederic Fekkai Hi-Lights Hair Mascara. It’s amazing, the mascara is so highly pigmented that the brows literally lit up with the flash.

Beware though, the bushier the eyebrows the better this hair mascara works. You can see the difference clearly below, Masha on the left has stronger eyebrows so I was able to work many coats of the Hair Mascara into the brows; Gemma on the right has less strong eyebrows so the effect of the gold eyebrows is not as strong.
